The only way you can get the rings for them is to cannibalize another scope or have some one sit down and make a set for $60 an hour. I believe (precision tools) mentioned $200 to $300 just for the adjustable mounts. On top of that if something goes wrong, which is already the case they are very expensive to repair. Both of these scopes are merely collectables like Model A fords and old tube type radios and they are worth EXACTLY what you can con some fool into paying for them. They would never be used for anything else. Outside of being curios and something to mount on a light caliber period rifle for look and nostalgia they really have no real use. Quite literally they are first generation technology and their optics have the clarity and light gathering capabilities of a drinking straw.

It may interest you to know that both of these scopes are free mounted which means they have external adjustments and are basically held together with bailing wire and duct tape. If you had bothered to read the thread you would know that. Well 1yesca, I didn’t offer him anything. 0005 edm wire if they make it in that size.Īnd the offer of $200 for the pair that was not an offer that was a down right cheep insalt It would be a fair deal for everyone considered. I also bet it will be a few months before you see your $500 back in your pocket so I stand behind what I originally said. $800 - $500 leaves $300 in your pocket which is fair considering all the running around you will have to do to pick them up, get them fixed and sell them. Now we have this little thing we call mathematics which you may not be familiar with. The repairs will probably be about $300.00 for repairs shipping and phone calls for the pair. They will end up selling for $800.00 for the pair.

Put them on Ebay for $900 as I suggested. I must admit its good money for me when some one turns a simple job into a nightmare, as I charge by the hour like everyone else. People bring in guns for me to fix all the time. Nor do I ever attempt to tell others to do the same. But as for myself, I have always made it my policy never to destroy something that I know absolutely nothing about. I’ve watched it done it’s really not all that complicated if you have the tools and you know what your doing. I have had several old Unertals pushed from ten to twenty power, filled with nitrogen and the threads sealed with grease.

KenWell Ken I’m sure that if you were not so busy you would hunt down some wire and install it for free for the gentleman. 003 for heavy cross hairs there was a guy selling the wire on ebay. As for your offer of 200 for the pair that offer STINKS. Can some give me a good list of the pro's and con's of each type mount and tube length? I can't seem to find any good comparisions between mounts and the recommended tube lengths for each type.Speed The Old scopes like the Unertl,Litschert, Malcom,Lyman, are not sealed or gas filled. I would like to purchase a scope and mounts before our next match in May. The scope will be mounted on either my Browning BPCR or my Rolling Block, both have 30" barrels. With some luck we may have BP Target matches going again next year. What I want is to shoot Silhouette and the occasional long range match.

Local scope shooters who use MVA scopes and mounts, tell me not to get the 23" tube but to get the full length tube and as a couple of them are Master Class shooters their opinion has more than just a little bit of weight to it. Also there is the question of what size riser blocks to get. As I understand it, the DZA Unertl style mounts will give more elevation than the MVA Silhouette mounts although their Creedmoor Mount is equal in total elevation capability? When I talked to MVA they recommended their 23" scope for silhouette while DZ Arms recommendeds an 18" scope. I have also talked to MVA and DZ Arms about their scope mounts, and quite frankly I am more confused than when I started. I have talked to other scope shooters on tube length and which mounts work best. Spent over $500 on new lens for my glasses over the winter and my scores have not gotten any better. I have decided to buy a scope for my BPCR, my corrected vision just isn't up to the task of seeing the Turkeys or Rams anymore. I realize this has been hashed over before in the forum, but after reading the previous threads I find myself still confused.
